Immertec Closes $6M Series A Extension
VR Healthtech company Immertec closed $6M of investment to maximize growth opportunities, raising from a blend of current and new investors. The round was oversubscribed from an additional target of $3M. Founded in 2017 and based in Tampa, Florida, Immertec is an award-winning technology startup that’s pushing the limits of what is possible in virtual health. The company’s real-time VR platform allows surgeons to instantly train on new medical devices, learn modern surgical procedures and collaborate on surgical cases from anywhere. Immertec is a Wave portfolio member and accelerator cohort alumni.
TaxTaker Closes Seed Round
TaxTaker recently closed out their seed round (undisclosed amount), led by Golden Section Technology Venture Capital (GSTVC) out of Austin, Texas, with GSTVC Director Adam Day joining the Board of Directors. TaxTaker is a members of Wave’s 2020 TechDiversity Accelerator Cohort and helps companies claim R&D tax credits through their proprietary technology platform. Their average Startup client receives over $41,000 in tax credits/savings in their first year alone.
Allotrope Medical and Vincere Health Win Competitions
Allotrope Medical, led by CEO Dr. Albert Huang MD, won the 2020 Texas A&M New Ventures Competition, along with the Aggie Angel Network Investment Prize. Allotrope Medical is a Y-Combinator and venture backed medical device company that has garnered several accolades from major medical device companies as well as surgical societies. Having received funding from the National Science Foundation, been chosen as Top Innovation in 2016 at SAGES, and a resident of the highly competitive Johnson & Johnson J-Labs, Allotrope Medical is recognized as creating technology that is truly advancing the field of medicine today.
Vincere Health won the 2020 Harvard President’s Innovation Challenge Grand Prize, beating over 300 other companies led by Harvard students and alumni. Vincere Health uses real-time rewards and behavioral nudges to motivate users to smoke less, walk more, and live healthier lives.

JustProtect Closes Major 6-Figured Funding
As reported in another recent blog post (from August 3, 2020), JustProtect closed a major 6-figure round from Lakeland Venture Investments (LVI), a new early stage fund just getting started in Central Florida. JustProtect is a cybersecurity company that specializes in regulation-compliance software. They are also a Wave portfolio member and alumni of Wave’s 2019 TechDiversity Accelerator program.
